BPOM's Healthy School Canteen Criteria
Healthy school canteens are currently recommended for all schools in Indonesia to provide nutritious food for the baby so that it has an influence on development. Applying a healthy diet to the little ones is not only done at home, but also becomes a duty for the school to use.
Schools must be able to become a second home for children by providing various types of access for healthy and clean food. Therefore, the school canteen has a very important role in providing adequate nutrition for the little one. To produce a healthy school canteen, it is not only the job of the canteen staff, but all school members.
Healthy School Canteen Criteria
In 2013, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency or BPOM has considered the law for a healthy school canteen with various criteria. Efforts to do this are done to help solve nutritional problems in Indonesian children. For some schools that have a promise to practice the law as long as the government will certainly award the school canteen food safety star charter. The following are some of the criteria for healthy schools based on BPOM.
Providing Safe and Clean Food
First, it should provide safe and clean food for the school canteen. School canteens are required to provide food that is free from chemicals and harmful. Of course, the food provided must be properly processed, thoroughly cooked, not rancid, and does not have a sour smell. Make sure to market healthy and nutritious food and the sales area must also be kept clean.
Teaching Good Hand Washing Methods
The school should also teach children to wash their hands in a good and correct way by applying soap and clean running water for at least 20 seconds. Education for hand washing is one of the requirements so that the school canteen has the title as a dining area for healthy students.
Do the steps to wash your hands, especially before and after eating. So later in the canteen there will be an area for washing hands with soap and it should be consistently clean.
Food Products Have Bright Labels
Next, food products must also have clear labels, such as product names, composition expiration dates and nutritional information. Of course, the little ones should also be educated on how to choose healthy foods by observing the information listed on food labels.
Make sure for products that do not have food labels, such as lontong, lemper, and so on, make sure the packaging is in good condition. Teaching children to read nutrition labels helps them make healthier food choices.
The canteen can also provide important information such as calories, total fat, cholesterol, protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins that your little one needs every day.
Supplying Healthy Drinks
The criteria for a healthy school canteen also have laws for marketed drinks. This requirement applies to drinks where some types of healthy drinks need to be provided by the school, for example, such as water, milk, juice, and sports drinks that will be consumed by the child after exercise.
Not Marketing Flashy Food and Drinks
A healthy canteen is not recommended for marketing food or drinks with colors that are too flashy because they contain bright dyes or chemicals that will harm the health of your little one. So the sale of this kind of product needs to be avoided.

To make a healthy school canteen is actually not easy, because there are various things that must be seen by the school and canteen in order to maintain the health of teaching children. But eating healthy foods to make children more motivated in learning and easy to concentrate.
